‘Assimilate’ looks at how you induct, develop, supervise and manage staff to ensure they demonstrate your workplace values in their role.

Assimilate workplace values, embed your values throughout the employee journey.

The Assimilate stage focuses on helping staff understand, demonstrate and live your organisation's values from the day they join.

Recruiting people who share your values is only the first step. Embedding those values into everyday practice helps staff understand what's expected of them, feel connected to your organisation and deliver high-quality, person-centred care.

When values are consistently reinforced through induction, supervision, development and performance conversations, they become part of your workplace culture, not just words on a page.

Embedding your values can help you:

  • give staff confidence about what's expected of them

  • recognise and celebrate positive behaviours

  • strengthen staff engagement and retention

  • create a positive workplace culture

  • support high-quality care and continuous improvement

  • demonstrate the culture and leadership expected by the Care Quality Commission (΢΢²ÝÊÓƵ).

How to embed your values

Your values should be reflected throughout the employee experience, not just during recruitment.

  • Build values into your policies: Include your workplace values and expected behaviours in your code of conduct and relevant policies and procedures.

  • Start from day one: Introduce your values during induction so new staff understand your expectations and how these translate into everyday practice.

  • Make supervision values-based: Use supervision to discuss not only what staff do, but how they demonstrate your organisation's values in their work.

  • Link values to development: Include values and behaviours in appraisals, objectives and development plans so staff receive regular feedback and opportunities to grow.

Making your workplace neuro-inclusive

Supporting neurodivergent staff helps everyone succeed and ensures all employees can demonstrate their strengths.

Consider:

  • offering workplace needs assessments through Access to Work or other providers
  • training managers to understand and support neurodivergent colleagues
  • providing written guidance alongside verbal instructions
  • giving staff time to map out processes and ways of working
  • involving neurodivergent colleagues in improving training and development opportunities.
