This guidance explains how providers can meet the requirements of the Accessible Information Standard (AIS), ensuring that people with disabilities, impairments or sensory loss can access and understand information about their care and support. The guidance outlines how providers should identify, record, flag, share and meet individuals' information and communication needs throughout their care journey.
The resource includes practical examples of reasonable adjustments, such as providing information in large print, Easy Read, Braille, audio formats or alternative languages, and ensuring access to British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters, communication support workers and advocacy services where required. It also highlights the importance of involving people in decisions about how they receive information and communication.
The guidance links the Accessible Information Standard to the ΢΢²ÝÊÓÆµ Assessment Framework and explains how inspectors may assess compliance through people's experiences, care records, staff knowledge and organisational processes. It also signposts providers to NHS England's Accessible Information Standard self-assessment framework and supporting implementation resources.

The Care Certificate is an agreed set of standards that define the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of specific job roles in the health and social care sectors. It's made up of the 15 minimum standards that should be covered if you’re new to care and should form part of a robust induction programme.
